John and his crew repaired my parent’s walkway which had eroded over time and created a hazard for anyone walking up to their home. John provided a quote and responded to all my questions quickly. He even came out a second time on a long weekend to remediate a concern we had with how two of the steps were levelled. Overall a great experience. We recently hired JPL Earthworks to replace our front sidewalk with paving stones, and the results exceeded our expectations. John, you really do have an incredible team. Seeing one of your staff members stop to help two young people change a tire and get back on the road was such a great moment. Even with the hectic pace that comes at the end of landscaping season, your staff didn’t hesitate to step in and help. I have nothing but good things to say about JPL Earthworks! John and his entire team are amazing to work with. We had our large stone patio relayed in the back and they even found us extra pavers on marketplace to complete the areas we changed.  The front was beautifully redone and all of the additional trades that John brought in were amazing as well. We are thrilled with our new backyard space! Dealing with John, Jeremy (site manager), and all the JPL employees was a pleasure from start to finish. They did excellent work, in an efficient and careful manner. It really felt like JPL strived to ensure that we were completely satisfied with the work, and the ultimate realization of our (occasionally shifting) vision. We were provided with valuable insights and no-BS assessments regarding what we wanted to accomplish; the result being an outdoor space that brings us a great deal of happiness. We had our old deck removed and a new stone patio installed by JPL Landscaping. From our first meeting with John, we felt confident we were in good hands. The crew, led by Jeremy, exceeded our expectations — he’s an excellent foreman who works as hard as he thinks things through. The whole team was friendly, respectful, and hardworking. I requested multiple quotes from many different reputable landscaping companies. After many delays (including delays with returning my call and sending the quote), the JPL Earthworks estimate came in high. John adds charges that other companies don't... including a charge for "Mobility- Mobilization of teams and equipment in and out, site meetings". He also charges a disposal/dump fee- which other companies may hide in their quote. When I questioned John about his Mobility charge, he commented that he has a website, along with WCB insurance. I replied that I don't believe these costs should be passed along to the customer as these are the costs of running a good business- along with equipment depreciation. John disagreed with my comment as he believes the customer should pay all his costs- including his $80,000 machine and $100,000+ truck. In my opinion, this is a very short sighted way of running a business. The other 2 reputable companies that provided quotes do not share his mindset. I will be going with one of them. There are a lot of wonderful landscaping companies out there to choose from. Over-charging the customer for all your business expenses is not a good business strategy. A good accountant is more than capable of handling all the business expenses- not the customer.
